HUMANS OF VARANASI
INDEPENDENT DOCUMENTARY
The inspiring story of an unsung hero in India
Kunsang Tenzing is a Tibetan photographer living in McLeodganj, Dharamshala. In December 2015 he visited Varanasi with a team of Korean volunteers and film-maker Hartley Woolf to take photographs of local low-income families and donate the printed photographs to them.
Independently produced, this film focuses on two large families with whom Kunsang has become friendly over previous years, each living in shanty housing near to the river in Varanasi, and each surviving off of as little as 500 rupees per day (about £5). Kunsang shares his thoughts and attitude towards photography and on the importance of a practical approach towards helping others, and reflects upon the success of his project in Varanasi.
